Medical Commander at Burningman… One of the toughest jobs I’ve seen

For over 20 years I’ve been a paramedic. In this time I’ve experienced enough to be wise enough to understand that I’ve haven’t seen it all, but I’ve seen enough to expect to be surprised. Well, at Burning Man, I can’t say I was overly surprised on the events or emergencies that transpired. I will say the frequency of crazy things was much more than I expected and the coordination of resources was tough. The guys and gals that commanded a dedicated team of health professionals were top-drawer folks who took the time to understand the burner culture, the population demographics and the cultural behaviors of large groups and successfully integrated this knowledge with experience to coordinate health response that was very efficient, effective and equally professional…
